Our Member Spotlight blog posts are back! And this month I got in touch with wonderful long-term MWM member, Cheryl!
As she'll tell you, Pilates has been a big part of Cheryl's adult life, and what I love about her is that she genuinely loves Pilates. And although she's been practicing consistently for so long, she's still always striving to master the method, learn more and progress her practice - That's a dream client right there!
Cheryl, thank you for being here, and for being such an encouraging, inspiring and incredible member of our MWM community! I've loved getting to know you both on and off the mat over the last three years, and I hope our readers love getting to know a little more about you through our spotlight chat too!
So dear reader, pour yourself a cuppa and enjoy some very fun facts, excellent words of wisdom and a good ol' giggle with the lovely Cheryl!
Tell us a little about yourself!
"The dreaded tell us a little about yourself question. I never know what to say to this question… but I promise I’m more interesting in real life!
Okay... fun facts:

I can do a headstand almost anywhere - usually at parties when I'm drunk - to prove I'm not!
I raced BMX for 10 years (waaay back in the 1900s!! hehe) and was sponsored by Swatch, competing in UK, European and World Championships.
Parallel parking is my superpower!
I hold an FIA (motorsport) licence.
I LOVE a walk! Better still if there's something to climb"
How did you first discover Pilates, and what keeps you coming back?
"Pilates has always been part of my adult life. I started in my 20s with a Kristen McGee MTV Pilates DVD that I’d do religiously in my first home. Yes, I still have it!
I found my way back to a local class in my mid-30s after having two children. When those classes came to an end, life quickly filled those hours as I raised two young children. So when I stumbled across the wonderful MWM in my late 40s, it felt like the right time to dive back in. Now in my 50s (eeek!), I’m loving it more than ever. It gives me something greater than just movement - it’s an hour or two to myself, the only place I truly switch off from everything"
What's your favourite Pilates move or class style, and why?
"It might be an unpopular opinion, but I do love a good ab workout. I’m determined to see them again one day! It’s always the unexpected moves that get you - but I secretly love that burn.
If I had to pick one though: you can't beat rolling like a ball for a good giggle!"
How has Pilates impacted your life?
"Ah… well, more specifically than Pilates, MWM has had a profound impact on my life. Not once have I ever had to drag myself there -even though I’ve had plenty of reasons to. I can count the classes I’ve missed on one hand.
It’s my sanctuary. It’s given me so much more than physical strength - it’s helped me feel calmer, lighter, and more like myself again. What Mollie has created is nothing short of wondrous. Thank you."
Tell us about something you're loving lately!
"The lighter evenings, warmer days, and that feeling of sunshine on my face - along with being able to get out and move again. We’re so lucky with where we live, and I really love making the most of it outdoors."
Do you have a tip, mantra or piece of advice for fellow Pilates lovers?
"The time you think you have will pass anyway, so don’t spend it worrying. Do the thing. Buy the shoes. Eat the cake. Be happy."
